Malta, Il Ghadira Beach, Mellieha Bay

This is the largest sandy beach on Malta - though still much smaller than many beaches of the Mediterranean. It lies right next to the main road and can get very busy. These are many beach umbrellas and sun loungers for hire and a good range of snack bars and restaurants. Il Ghadira Beach is quite exposed, so perfect for many water sports. The water is clear and beautiful - as on many Maltese beaches. The sand is fine and pale. Small children will enjoy the expanse of shallow water - you have to wade out quite a way before it gets very deep.

The town of Mellieha lies above the beach on the hillside. Its narrow, steep streets house many restaurants, small supermarkets and shops selling Maltese souvenirs.
