These parish churches are scattered all over Malta's interior and dominate the village squares. Their domes and steeples can be seen from miles away. The churches are built from huge limestone blocks quarried on Malta. This local stone is soft and easy to work. It has a beautiful warm, ochre hue and can be seen all over Malta - many buildings are adorned with intricate carvings. Mgarr is a tiny, ordinary village in the interior of Malta, which, like so many of Malta's tiny villages has a huge, extraordinarily beautiful church. Apparently, Malta has a church for every day of the year and they all seem to be spectacular. These parish churches are scattered all over Malta's interior and dominate the village squares.
