This is the place for bracing walks and terrific sea views. A small road along the top of Dingli cliffs seems to be a popular spot for walking the dog or stretching your legs after a long, leisurely lunch.
The cliff face is not immediately next to the road here. Instead, there are sloping fields, where we were curious to see that burly Maltese men were sitting in sheds. It turned out that they were bird catching. A female bird is trapped inside a cage and when she sings to passing males, they are then caught and sold in the nearby market.
The locals seemed to be well aware that visitors may not approve of this pastime and they made us feel most unwelcome and a little intimidated. We left quickly.
